What that article fails to mention is that Cork City are charging an addition €100 if you wish to reserve a particular seat for the season, a service included in the Derry City season ticket free of charge.

You still need to be able to sell match day tickets for fans unable / not willing to get a season ticket.

We were never going to sell tickets as STANDING.

There's a lot of patrons who have no interest in standing at matches. Many are too old, wouldn't be able to stand for 2+ hours, other just like sitting.

I can see it being mostly seated, with some Standing sections, if that's a possibility.

Will be interesting to see the uptake on ST now for it considering the product on the pitch is poor.

There are a number of patrons who prefer to stand, just look at either side of the MF Stand, and the empty seats within the same.

Of course they were going to sell tickets as standing. It was never ever going to be a seated stand, it was originally proposed as a literal terrace, with a capacity of almost 2.940 (https://www.derryjournal.com/sport/foot ... re-4981760).

I just don't know why it is being treated as a seated stand, capping capacity at 1,700. Perhaps they will rise capacity incrementally. If the MF Stand is extended, this would eradicate any concerns of lack of seating for people.

However I agree with you, with the product on the pitch currently dog shite - we can cross this bridge when we come to it.

This is because of any future European matches. They have to be all seated.

Totally valid - one would presume this would leave 1k odd tickets for general sale for the north stand each week (assuming the season tickets sell well).

I have a slight concern that this new North Stand is not going to end up the boisterous noisy home end that we all hoped for.

It seems that the club is moving a lot of players families into the stand.

Does it also seem likely that the good noisy fans in Block J & K are going to move down to the new stand ? They haven't so far.

It seems only the young ultras in the far side of the stand are going to be the only noisy fans.

I was hoping it was going to be end up like The Shed end at Cork or the home end at Tallaght, but possibly not.

I have been in the stand for the first two home games, albeit with a limited capacity, but the atmosphere was very dead to be honest, mostly just families and young kids.

I hope we don't miss a trick with it.

Our problem is that we have 2 groups of noisy fans who try to create atmosphere, but fundamentally don't get on. There's Brandywell Pride, who have been a key part of the atmosphere at games for decades now. And then there's the kids in the Derry Ultras/Bock K - who seem to think their egos are more important than the club and that they're entitled to do whatever they want (including getting the club fined and being involved in attacking other fans), so long as they generate a small food bank collection every so often to cleanse their sins.

I'm not surprised Brandywell Pride appear to not see eye to eye with the schooligans. But it does mean that the engine of the atmosphere is very divided.

The last time we had consistently great atmospheres at games IMO was the SK era, when we were genuine trophy contenders and had good European results. It was a magical time for all who experienced it. Most of the stadium nowadays seems to have little interest in joining in with singing for more than a few seconds max. We're definitely not the fortress we were 20yrs ago.

Couldn't agree more Steve. An amalgamation of Brandywell Pride & Block K in the one area would create an exceptional atmosphere, however as you say, the bad elements within Block K are less than palatable for BP. It would need its own mini peace process.

A few bad eggs & egos on the Block K side are the only things preventing this.

To be fair, having them side by side at the cup final seemed to work quite well, and they bounced off one another - it is a shame.

The seats are bolted to the floor as well as the wall, the bolts are a trip hazard & therefore poses a health & safety risk. This was the fault of the contractor/manufacturer, think the club have decided to wait until the end of the season to rectify the situation rather than close the stand in sections to fix it
