From.someone who was at the game. Maher lacked focus last night, lack of match sharpness?

Todd was bullied, out nuscled by their front 2 and his passing was poor. Fergusin was tidy but always playing back, an ideal RH player. Boyce was off it.

TL showed a lack of respect to shels, by being so open away from.home to the champions.

It wasn't 2 up top, Boyce was playing as a10 and was isolated. Hoban has no legs and was isolated. Long balls were bread and butter for shels cbs and we couldn't play through them. Oreielly played as an 8 and was so often caught out of position isolating Winchester. Thomas has all the craft but lacks pace for a Winger. We were too open and played with touchline wingers, which created space for shels to exploit. Truth be told they were in on our goal 6-7 times. I didn't see many positives that TL commented on other than Patton, Diallo and Whyte had a positive impact on the game.

Can those who are concerned about Lynchs appointment explain why, I'd be interested to read them.

I get that going from Irish League to LOI is a step up but I don't think that alone would give me great concerns. Is there something else about him or how he works?

suppose it’s good to find out early how far of the mark we are
that could have been 6-1 last night.
relights out - Tolka is a sh1t hole and we weren’t told anything about it starting again about a 1/4 of the crowd had left ( wish we had🤦🏼‍♂️)

Spot on Barry. Although your point on Ferguson I'm hoping its because of a lack of an outlet rather than just pumping it forward to nobody. Last night will be a learning curve for everyone, especially the management team

I still can't believe the Club allowed Coll to depart.

Very short-sighted for an experienced and versatile player that can play across the back.

Mad that his contract was allowed to run down and yet players like Davenport and the like were handed 18 months.

Mismanagement of the highest order.

Aye especially when they signed an injured Davenport.

Thankfully we have learnt from the mistakes of last season and only sign 33 year olds from Belfast now.

Todd will be singled out, but I don't think anyone came away from that game with any positives, including the management team. On them, firstly the comments about higher level they are at now. That's usually how management works in football. You do well at a lower level and move upwards. It's been happening throughout the history of football. Some succeed, others don't.

Thought Maher had a terrible game.

Hoban and Boyce both looked like very old players last night. Was surprised by Boyce, considering he is mid season with Hearts, thought he would be sharp, but he looked like a cart horse, very slow. And wasn't he more a "big strong striker up front"? He is certainly no No10.

The midfield was missing. I suspect that either O'Reilly will have to be pulled back from his more advanced role and freedom he is meant to be getting this season, or else we will have to play a more defensive midfielder in there, or change formation.

As many have said, our defence is going to be the weak link unless we get at least one more good CB in. If we go onwards from here with Connolly, Todd and Cann, I would fear for us at the back. Plus all three aren't going to stay injury free, so who is their backups?

The only positive from last night is that it was game 1, and it was against the champions. A Shels team who will be hard to beat. Plus it will be a wake up call for the manager and the players. Now they need to show a reaction on Friday night, and put in a good performance.

We played the champions and got battered. It was to be expected after our struggles last season. New players and manager need time to settle but the squad is still not strong enough especially in defence. We need to find a proper CB from somewhere otherwise you can’t take them seriously.

Boyce hasn't played much football. Aside from his last 3 games at Hearts he's spent most of the season on the bench or not in the squad

Marty wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 11:07 pm Higgins will be a much more successful manager than Lynch. I could not have been more disappointed with this appointment.

Who ever sanctioned this retirement home, thank you.
Marty is the last Stephen Kenny fan-boy still standing. Like that Japanese soldier fighting in the jungle 30 years after WW2 ended, he's still sore that SK wasn't appointed our manager for the 3rd time. The fact Kenny probably wouldn't have come to Derry even if we'd tried doesntl matter. Infatuation is not rational.

Meanwhile Pats couldn't even score a goal at home tonight against the league's basement club. Clearly that's the kind of manager we need at Derry
To be fair, Steve, you said TL wouldn't come to Derry.
If I did, then that was clearly very wrong

I'm not sure what that's got to do with someone refusing to mobve on from Stephen Kenny after all these years though. We have to liste to this from Martie on our WhatsApp group after every game.

This new manager and team needs to be given time.

I told myself I wouldn’t comment… but where was this hard work and 100% commitment on Friday night we were promised… all I seen was so many so far off the pace it was like they played football for the first time.. i honestly don’t think we will cash the cheques we wrote so to speak!! Funny old game football… also a game of opinions.

You can’t throw a team together weeks before the season starts and expect them to rock up at the champions and turn them over.

We’ve been terrible now for about 9 months straight.

Big games every week now as the league is very competitive.
