Re: Derry City vs Bohs
On Drive 105 MNL tonight, full match commentary from Stephen McClelland, Mikhail Kennedy and myself with Bill Waters in studio from 7pm.
In the build up to kickoff Irish Daily Mirror's Paul O'Hehir reflects on last week's cup game, discussed the Rennie out chants and the Drama of this season's title chase.
I speak to Danny Mullen about his 'super-sub' status, scoring frequently v Pat's and the pending Cup final (an extended version of this interview is already online).
Gareth talks to Ronan Boyce about injury, frustrations and being linked away from the club. Plus, Rory McCartney talks about our partnership with the club, RNIB and the council to deliver the new visual Impairment service.
All of this, and the match, is available as part of the visual Impairment service and on 105.3FM locally, DAB Radio and Online up to 10pm.

Time after time after time.
A bunch of bottlers that team is. Only 6 times in the league have we scored in the first half- any wonder we find it hard to win matches when the managers doesn't want to really go for it in the first half.

Re: Derry City vs Bohs
One of the best performances of the season, created enough chances to win 3 games.
Mistake was made 30 games ago not changing the manager. O what could have been.

If only paul mcmullen could shoot. Didn't turn up in the first half and played decent in the second half, why not play like that from the start. We really needed the six points this weekend.
Really deflated after that, thought the cup win last week would have given us a boost in our remaining games.

Re: Derry City vs Bohs
If you look at the season as a whole, we simply haven't been good enough to win it. There's no argument.
Its been the worst league in many years, yet we are still going to fall short, which means we are going backwards. We could end up 3rd or even 4th.
Having to win 4 out of 5 games. It was never going to happen. We don't consistently win games. Who would even bet on us beating Sligo on Monday now?
We probably will have to hope for a cup win now, although looking at our 2 centre backs tonight, I am filled with fear about that too. Its our obvious weak point in the team.

But when you stumble at the 1st of the 5 hurdles, it doesn't bode well. That's 1 league win in 8.
We really need 4 victories from 4 now. You'd get some odds on us winning the next 4 games.

Good second half. McMullan central to most things so don't want to judge him too harshly for hitting post.
Subs made a good impact but then ran out of fizz and last few minutes weren't great.
I think Whelan was about to come on for Hoban just before he scored but was then kept off. He could maybe have come on at end.
McEleney will play on Monday I think. However, failing to win there will end it as I can't see Derry winning back to back games away v Dundalk and Pats.

Re: Derry City vs Bohs
Our experienced players who are supposed to bring the team through this period - Hoban, Connolly, Wisdom - were woeful in the first half. That was the worst Hoban performance I've seen all season - too many passes to Bohs players and then no desire to win the ball back after it. If this is meant to be your captain, then no wonder we couldn't win. Should've been hooked even after his goal.
We were also terrible in the tackle first half; no surprise that Bohs scored when we let them play and run through us so easily. Make no mistake, this one's on the players again, no matter how much some might want to lay it on RH. Though what would this forum be, without a dig at him anyway? He should've brought Fats on for Diallo. Looks like he was hoping the team could win without him, then have him fit for Monday. But we can't look beyond what's in front of us. Could end up regretting that.
But, I was expecting at best 4 pts from this weekend and we're still on track for that. Just means that we'll need to get something against Pats, which is no easy ask. And I hope the players reflect on that - when the option is to win against Bohs at home, or get a result at Pats away, I know which one I'd be focused on. Very poor.

Did you not just have a dig at RH for not bringing Fats on for Diallo?PauliAlonso wrote: Sat Oct 12, 2024 9:55 am Our experienced players who are supposed to bring the team through this period - Hoban, Connolly, Wisdom - were woeful in the first half. Agree we don’t demonstrate the quality that’s within the team.Keyser Soze wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 10:39 pm If you look at the season as a whole, we simply haven't been good enough to win it. There's no argument.

McMullan has been missing a few clear chances lately but still worthy of his place, although others would disagree. His energy in covering is undeniably, running down opposition and winning the ball is first class.
Patching must be carrying an injury as not on top of his game and weak at tackling.
Doherty one of the fastest in the team will be sorely missed if his hamstring has gone.
As you say our centre backs have experience but not the legs to catch speedy opposition having to resort to fouling and getting carded. Connolly must be under instruction to find Duffy, who had at times 3 players round him, rather than passing to Boyce/ McMullan who were in clear space.
O’Rielly has good energy but has run himself into trouble a number of times when he should have passed earlier.
Diallo, a class player whose early distribution gives confidence to the rest of the players, and us - well me anyway.
Been watching the nations teams playing and was at ease when they play out from the back but get the jitters when I have a vested interest watching Derry who do exactly the same. There’s panic from some around me who resort to singling out players in these situations.
I think the team selection was the right one for the match last night and of those on the bench Coll and Mullen were easy choices to step in as subs.
We had the clear scoring chances in a fair number of games this season but failed to take them to put us clear of the opposition
That would have boosted confidence throughout the team and us instead of frustration and panic.
This season didn’t stand out in quality as no team has, so we may still win it.
