Derry City Women 2025

Post by TenaciousDee »

This Friday night Derry City Women open their NIFL Women's Premiership campaign away to Crusaders Strikers. Like last season, I will be at games and keeping the Derry public connected with all the latest from the campaign. This will include exclusive pre-match and post-match interviews with players and management and discussions are ongoing with NIFL about live presentations throughout the 2025 season.

Ahead of Friday's game I spoke with Paul Dixon, Derry City Manager, about his excitement for the new campaign, reflects on pre-season preparations, and shares thoughts on the challenges of an 8-team league.

Today it has been confirmed that Paul Dixon has stepped down as manager of Derry City Women.

From an outside perspective, it’s clear that Paul and his coaching team have had a transformative impact on the team — lifting the club from a relegation battle in 2023 to a landmark 2024 season that included winning the Women’s Foyle Cup, reaching the Irish Cup semi-finals, and securing the club’s highest-ever finish in the NIFL Premiership.

Personally, I found him to be a joy to work with. No matter the result, he was always open, approachable, and generous with access behind the scenes. I’ve already wished him the best privately, and I look forward to crossing paths again in the future.

Now, attention turns to the search for a new leader who can build on the strong foundations laid by Paul and his team.

This Friday, we’ll be broadcasting Countdown to Kick-Off live from the Brandywell ahead of the Cliftonville fixture. We hope you can join us and help create a brilliant atmosphere as the Women’s team enters a new chapter.

We Are One Club.

What's the reason for their exit? I suspect it's not results based. Hardly ideal timing.

Nothing to do with results. Before last year they were getting beat by cricket scores. It came as a surprise to me. Last Tuesday we spoke on a video call for 45 minutes talking about the season and how he felt the season was going to go. Friday after the game he was a bit quiet to me but there was a hint that something was said in the changing room about the possibility. He told me on Sunday it was to take a break and let someone else with fresh ideas come in. If there is something other than that, i don't know.
